Cape Town Festival, that takes place every year has an essential role in African culture. This festival brings together the residents of The Mother City, as South Africans refer to Cape Town. Since 1999, it has always provided Cape Town residents with an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of this wonderful South African city.
The Cape Town festival took place for the first time a decade ago and was part of a project that was initiated by Ryland Fisher, dubbed One City Many Cultures. Mr. Fisher, the former editor of the Cape Times became the chairperson of the festival. The main motivation behind the initiative was to cultivate values of tolerance, oneness and integrity among residents of the Cape Town.
According to a survey that was conducted during the 2008 Cape Town Festival, 55 per cent of those who attended the event were above the 30-year age bracket. The rest of the majority were people aged between 15 and 25 years. Diverse arts are the main source of motivation for people to attend this event. Cultural heritage is a major unifying factor in the activities that take place throughout this festival. Jonathan Rubain, a great jazz sensation is one of the many entertainers that city residents as well as visitors can expect to get great fun from in the form of stage performances and thrilling concerts.
Since 2000, Cape Town Jazz Festival is celebrated as an international event.
